Summer Volunteer Adventures in the Como Conservatory Japanese Garden

I have started a new chapter in my Como volunteering adventures!  Today, fresh from yesterday’s training session, I started volunteering in the Japanese garden.  This volunteer position is almost exclusively outside.  The day started cold but with the sun breaking out, I quickly warmed up and was able to ditch my coat. There are only a few folks out in the early part of the morning, which is a good time to contemplate the beauty of the garden.

I already miss being in the North Garden of the Conservatory. However, the Japanese garden is beautiful and serene and I’m confident that, as I learn the plants and imbibe the serenity of the environment, I will grow to more greatly appreciate the quietness and beauty inherent in the design and structure of the Japanese Garden.

Turtle Island - Japanese Garden
In conversing with visitors, I have learned that everyone enjoys being shown the 'turtle' shape that comprises Turtle Island. It'll look even more interesting when the water and koi are in over the summer.

I'd like to continue the plant of the day but until I learn more about the Japanese Garden plants, I will simply blog about my daily volunteer activities.

Until then, peace to all!
